Pondy Oxides to Invest ₹200 Crore in Copper Recycling Plant in Tamil Nadu

Chennai, May 26, 2026: Pondy Oxides and Chemicals Ltd (POCL) has approved an investment of approximately ₹200 crore to establish a copper recycling plant in Tamil Nadu, marking a significant expansion of its non-ferrous metals recycling portfolio.

The company’s board approved the project at its meeting held on May 26, according to a regulatory filing.

The new facility will be located at Thervoykandigai in Thiruvallur district and will have an installed capacity of 36,000 metric tonnes per annum (MTPA) of London Metal Exchange (LME) Grade A copper cathodes. The project will be implemented in two phases, each with a capacity of 18,000 MTPA.

POCL said the plant will utilize an integrated pyro-refining and electro-refining process to produce high-purity recycled copper for both domestic and export markets. The project will be funded entirely through internal accruals and is targeted for commissioning on or before December 2026.

The company said the investment forms part of its strategy to expand value-added recycling operations, strengthen vertical integration, and diversify its non-ferrous recycling business.

“The project will position POCL as a competitive global supplier of recycled copper while supporting India’s efforts to reduce dependence on imported copper,” the company said.

The copper recycling facility is expected to enhance the company’s product mix by adding higher-value copper products, improve profitability through greater metallurgical value addition, and generate operational synergies across procurement, logistics, and sales functions.

POCL also expects the project to contribute to sustainability goals by increasing the use of recycled copper, reducing carbon emissions associated with primary metal production, and reinforcing its commitment to circular economy principles.
