Gurugram, June 15: K2 Infragen Ltd has secured a ₹158.58 crore contract (including GST) from Konkan Railway Corporation Ltd (KRCL) for the upgradation of railway electrification infrastructure across key sections of the North Western Railway network.
The contract involves the design, supply, erection, testing and commissioning of works to upgrade the electric traction system from 1×25 kV to 2×25 kV, aimed at enhancing the capacity and efficiency of freight operations.
The project covers the Luni–Samdari–Bhildi section in the Jodhpur Division and the Jaipur–Sawai Madhopur section in the Jaipur Division, spanning a total of 403 route kilometres and 497.65 track kilometres. According to the Letter of Acceptance (LoA), the project is scheduled to be completed within 24 months.
The traction upgradation is intended to support a loading target of 3,000 million tonnes (MT) and forms part of the broader railway modernisation programme aimed at improving network capacity and operational reliability.
With the latest award, K2 Infragen said it has received fresh orders worth ₹570.49 crore since December 2025, all through direct bidding in the railway and transmission and distribution (T&D) segments.
Commenting on the development, Managing Director Pankaj Sharma said the order represents an important milestone for the company and has pushed its unexecuted order book beyond the ₹500 crore mark in direct orders from government bodies over the last six months.
“Along with our continuing traction in the power segment, this gives us strong revenue visibility and reinforces our confidence in the company’s execution pipeline,” Sharma said.
Railway electrification and traction upgrades have emerged as key focus areas for Indian Railways as it seeks higher efficiency, improved load handling and enhanced freight movement. The shift to 2×25 kV traction systems is expected to enable higher power transmission and smoother operations across busy corridors.
