Godawari Power and Ispat Limited has approved a major capacity expansion plan with the setting up of a 1.0 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) integrated steel plant in Chhattisgarh, the company said following its board meeting held on March 24.
The proposed facility will be located at Sarora village in Tilda tehsil of Raipur district, around 50 km from Raipur city. The project will involve an estimated investment of ₹7,000 crore and will be funded through a mix of debt and internal accruals in a 1:1 ratio.
Capacity expansion to meet rising demand
The new plant will manufacture iron and steel finished products, including heavy and medium structural steel and wire rods. The expansion is aimed at strengthening the company’s position in the domestic steel market and tapping into the growing demand for structural steel across infrastructure and construction sectors in India.
Currently, the company operates a 0.5 MTPA facility at the Siltara Industrial Area in Raipur, which is running at over 95% capacity utilisation. The proposed addition of 1.0 MTPA will significantly scale up its production capabilities.
Project timeline and strategic rationale
The integrated steel plant is expected to be commissioned within approximately three and a half years. The company said the investment aligns with its long-term growth strategy and reflects confidence in sustained demand for structural steel in India.
