Afcons Infrastructure wins ₹1,918 crore BMC order for Mumbai desalinated water tunnel

Afcons Infrastructure Ltd has received a Letter of Acceptance (LoA) from the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) for a ₹1,918 crore project to design and construct a desalinated water conveyance tunnel in Mumbai.

The project involves construction of a tunnel connecting the proposed water pumping station at Manori to Charkop and extending further to Mahavir Nagar in Kandivali. The project award value of ₹1,918 crore is inclusive of GST and operations and maintenance (O&M).

The company disclosed the award in a regulatory filing on August 6, 2026, saying the order was received in the normal course of business.

The Manori-Charkop-Mahavir Nagar tunnel is intended to strengthen Mumbai’s water supply infrastructure and facilitate the conveyance of desalinated water across the city.

Krishnamurthy Subramanian, Executive Chairman of Afcons Infrastructure, said the desalinated water conveyance tunnel would be a critical step towards ensuring a sustainable water supply for Mumbai, while highlighting the company’s engineering and execution capabilities.

S Paramasivan, Managing Director of Afcons Infrastructure, said the company would partner with BMC on the project and execute the tunnel alongside its ongoing Kasheli-Mulund water conveyance tunnel project.

The latest order further strengthens Afcons’ presence in Mumbai’s underground water infrastructure segment. The company is currently executing BMC’s 7.13-km underground water conveyance tunnel from Kasheli to Mulund. It has also undertaken an 8.7-km treated water tunnel project for CIDCO in Navi Mumbai.

Beyond Maharashtra, Afcons has executed water supply and irrigation projects across several parts of India, including projects in Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan. Internationally, the company has delivered water supply projects in countries including Tanzania, Ivory Coast, Benin and Rwanda.

Afcons Infrastructure is the flagship infrastructure engineering and construction company of the Shapoorji Pallonji Group. The company operates across South Asia, Africa, the Middle East and CIS markets and has executed complex EPC projects across infrastructure segments including bridges, marine and ports, water and hydro projects.

The ₹1,918 crore award adds to Afcons’ order book and provides further visibility for its water infrastructure business, particularly in large-scale urban water supply projects.
