ABB has joined forces with Titagarh Rail Systems to supply propulsion systems for metro projects in India.
The collaboration has already achieved early success by securing orders to design and supply equipment for metro coaches destined for the state of Gujarat. Titagarh, with its expertise in the design, manufacture, commissioning, and servicing of passenger rolling stock and metro coaches, complements ABB’s leadership in propulsion systems and electrical equipment for railways and metro systems.
The partnership is set to play a crucial role in establishing a strong presence in the Indian market, while also positioning the alliance to explore opportunities in other projects and countries.
The agreement encompasses Titagarh’s procurement of ABB propulsion systems, including traction converters, auxiliary converters, traction motors, and TCMS (Train Control and Management System) software. Additionally, Titagarh will gain manufacturing rights and production licenses for traction motors, accompanied by the complete transfer of technology for the GoA 4 (Driverless metro) TCMS software from ABB to Titagarh.
Keller noted the strategic importance of the partnership, affirming, “This development of local TCMS capabilities will enable us to further align with the government’s vision of the Aatmanirbharta.”
The collaboration has already commenced, with orders for propulsion equipment and TCMS for metro coaches in Gujarat, a state known for its industrial prowess in India. This successful venture marks the beginning of a partnership poised to contribute significantly to the growth and sustainability of India’s metro transportation infrastructure.
