Anisha Jain: Hello and welcome, you’re watching Small Cap Spotlight. I’m Anisha Jain and we’re right here at the Pharma Expo Live 2025 and I have with me Mr. Vasant Kumar of MM Pharma joining us for a quick chat.

V. Vasanth Kumar: Yeah, good morning madam.

Anisha Jain: So, tell me first up, what does MM Pharma do?

V. Vasanth Kumar: Actually, MM Pharma is a pure manufacturing company of pharmaceutical medicines. Actually, we’re based at Chennai. Our corporate office is Chennai.

Factory is at Dehradun. We have four factories in Dehradun and two factories in Tamil Nadu. So, we started in 1975.

Mr. Srinivasan is the chairman of the company. He came from down south and he started a company. No, he came for, he joined in B-form in MMC, Mettus Middle College in 1975 and he finished his college and he started a company called MM Pharma in Chennai itself and actually, now it’s 50 years old.

But after that, his son, Mr. Ram Kumar has taken care and now he’s a director now.

Anisha Jain: Okay, so he’s running the company now but tell me, where are the factories situated? How many people do you employ? What’s the size of the company?

V.Vasanth Kumar: Yeah, actually, some thousand people are working in 800 in factories and 200 people working in the corporate office. Office is Chennai.

Factory is Dehradun and Tamil Nadu also. Mostly, almost some 1500 companies are, we are manufacturing for 1500 companies, pan India and we are almost exporting for almost seven countries. Especially, we are very strong in Southeast Asia and 15,000 products we are manufacturing.

Anisha Jain: 1500 clients, 15,000 products exporting to seven companies but what’s your, let’s say, revenue profile right now?

V.Vasanth Kumar: Thousand crores turnover company.

Anisha Jain: Thousand crores turnover and are you growing at a very rapid pace? Are you seeing a lot of interest and a lot of growth?

V.Vasanth Kumar: Yeah, a lot of growth is there because a lot of exports we are doing for many companies, many inquiries coming for the exports there. So, we are doing exports as well as domestic also.

Anisha Jain: So, right now, if I had to ask you from the thousand crore revenue, what part of it is domestic and what part is export?

V.Vasanth Kumar: Yeah, it’s 75% domestic and 25% exports we are doing and future it will come almost from equal.

Anisha Jain: Okay, because you’re expecting exports to increase?

V.Vasanth Kumar: Yes, we are expecting. Actually, we need some certification like USFTA and EUJMP.

If it has come, it will be increasing the products in the abroad, that is world.

Anisha Jain: And you have enough capacity right now to meet with the demand?

V.Vasant Kumar: Yes, yes. Actually, we have almost some increase in the factories in Dehradun.

Presently, we have four factories and we are going to develop one more factory in Dehradun. We have almost a separate, separate for tablets and separate factories, soft gel separate factory, injectable separate factory, effervescent separate factory, like that we have separate factories. And soft gels and syrups we are doing in Chennai, that is Tamil Nadu, Chengalpet, which is 100 kilometers from Chennai.

And also we have a factory in Pondicherry. So, still we are actually, it is an increasing stage only of us. Many companies, many products and see pharma is never ends, no.

Many products are keep on coming. Latest molecules. And even though we are doing all the latest molecules.

Anisha Jain: So, how are you doing all of that? Are you investing a lot in research and development? Because technology, as you said, is changing very fast. From, you know, tablets, we moved to soft gels and there were injectables, biosimilars and what not. How are you keeping, you know, yourself ahead of the curve for all of this?

V.Vasanth Kumar: No, actually we have, actually we are, wherever this exhibition comes, we are putting the stalls and we have a sales team in Chennai.

Almost 100 people are working in the sales team. We used to call every day, every customer, repeat new customers. We mainly, we focus on new customers and also exhibitions and also our marketing force also will be visiting the field.

They are working in pan India. They used to go for South Hyderabad, Bangalore, Mumbai, Delhi, Rajasthan, Punjab. So, everywhere they will go and meet the customers.

They will get the appointment and they will go and meet and they will take orders. Because actually many leading companies we are manufacturing. For example, we are manufacturing for Vokart, Gopik, Balfarma, Apex, Forts India, Manish Pharma, Medli.

So, if you tell and if you show the products, definitely they will give the enquiries because you are doing the leading companies.

Anisha Jain: Sure. So, you talked about some of the clients that you already have 1500 clients and you named some of them. Where are you seeing increased enquiries from? Like which product or which geography or which product profile is seeing the maximum interest?

V.Vasanth Kumar: Maximum interest is gynecology. Because gynecology, a lot of new products need for the pregnancy and for the babies and all. So, that is why nowadays you know actually a lot of infertility cases are there.

So, that we need a lot of new products. So, we are actually now progesterone molecule has come, now dihydrogen, what is called additional product has come now for the improvement of the pregnancy. So, we are very strong in gynecology and also very strong in effervescence, very strong on injectables and tablets almost.

It’s the same general products we are making.

Anisha Jain: So, what sets MM Pharma apart from the other companies? Why will somebody come to you and not your competitors?

V.Vasanth Kumar: Yeah, it’s a very good question actually. So, we are very strong in the quality.

The quality is very, we are mainly focusing on raw materials and we will get the good raw materials for the manufacture.

Anisha Jain: Where do you get the raw materials from for yourself?

V.Vasanth Kumar: Now, basically from India and also from China.

Anisha Jain: Okay, that’s good. But tell me one thing, now with all that trade tariff issue coming in and all those geopolitical uncertainty, are you seeing increased inquiries?

V.Vasanth Kumar: Every company, if the marketing companies, they will have for this year, if they are having some five products next year, they have to increase the products. Ultimately, they have to come to us only. For their sales and their profit and to meet the doctors and all, they have to increase the products.

For that, they have to come to us, we have to go there. So, vice versa. Yeah, it’s a two-way street.

You are helping them and they are helping you. We are giving a good quality, they are selling the product, they are giving the good product to the doctors and ultimately the patients will get the good product. Then only they will be happy, healthy.

Anisha Jain: Tell me, what are the key challenges that you are seeing in business right now?

V.Vasanth Kumar: Key challenge means a lot of new, new products is coming, new, new diseases coming. For new diseases, new, new products is coming. And also a lot of, they want some very good packings.

Nowadays, the customers need different type of packings. Earlier, if you see only tablets, soft gels, now like effervescent has come, gummies has come now, sachets has come. So like that, they want a new type of products.

Ultimately, they are taking the… Same molecule, but in different forms. We have forms like blister pack, aloe-aloe pack, and also from what is called effervescent pack, the kit pack.

So like that, a lot of packing is there now. So they want a new type of packings, new type of colourings, cotton boxes.

Anisha Jain: So how do you manage to do all of that? Is packaging also something that you do in-house?

V.Vasanth Kumar: Yeah, we do in-house and also sometimes we do what is called outsourcing also we still get.

So wherever it’s possible, we have separate machines for packing. We do in-packing, also outsourcing also we’ll get.

Anisha Jain: So you talked about how you’re also looking at getting the US FDA license and the UK and EU GMP license and the good practices license etc.

What’s the timeline for that? Any timeline you guys have and what will be the increased market once you get that?

V.Vasanth Kumar: Actually, many inquiries are coming. Only thing we do doesn’t we have some certification. If certification comes, definitely we’ll go for the world.

We can supply our products to the world. Because we are very strong in the quality. So that is definitely they know about us in domestic.

So definitely we’ll go throughout the world.

Anisha Jain: Okay and tell me which are the key persons who are at the leadership team, who have very strong presence in the market? You talked about the director and the promoter but who are the other people in the company who are helping you in the leadership team?

V.Vasanth Kumar: Actually, we have separate managers in the separate factories actually. So actually it’s all mixed actually.

We some south people and the north people all will be working in the factories. So all the team mates will be, we have team mates. In Chennai also we have team mates and in the factory also we are team mates.

With the help of team mates, managers and staffs. So everybody is working together and we are a success in the manufacturing and we are supplying in time quality also.

Anisha Jain: But do you have a long waiting period or something like that? Because what’s the capacity utilization at the companies, at the factories right now?  How much are they running at? Is there a waiting time? Do they have opportunity to take more business or they are running at 100% capacity?

V.Vasanth Kumar: Whatever the stipulated time we used to supply.

We have a very wide range of machineries, wide range of places. That is why no issue of supplying the products.

Anisha Jain: But what do you think is happening in the industry? You talked about one trend which is that people are looking at different type of packaging etc.

Which are the new trends that are emerging? Are people investing lot in research and development of new molecules etc? What is new trend which you are watching out for in the industry? Or AI is a big trend or technology or what is the big trend?

V.Vasanth Kumar: Whatever the customer needs, we used to give for the customers.

Anisha Jain: Customer needs remain the most important thing and everything comes around that.

V.Vasanth Kumar: We feel definitely we are giving in good quality and good in time. That is our success.

Anisha Jain: That’s good to hear and any last words that you would want to leave us with in terms of what MM Pharma’s future vision is 5 years, 10 years out? What would be the level of the company or what could be the manufacturing capacity, revenue capacity?

V.Vasanth Kumar: We are very strong in the domestic actually. Pan India was supplying and we want to go for the pan world actually.

Throughout the world we want to supply and whatever the customers need, we will fulfill it in future. We have a capacity.

Anisha Jain: Okay sir, thank you so much for joining us today and having this chat and wish MM Pharma and the company best of luck.

V. Vasanth Kumar: Thank you very much. Thank you. Nice meeting.

Anisha Jain: Thank you so much for joining us. Stay tuned for more.
