VA TECH WABAG Secures $371 Million Order for Sewage Treatment Plant in Saudi Arabia

Indian multinational water technology company, VA TECH WABAG (‘WABAG’), has secured a major consortium order worth USD 371 million (~INR 3,251 crores) for the construction of a 200 MLD (Million Litres per Day) Independent Sewage Treatment Plant (ISTP) in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The order was awarded by Al Haer Environmental Services Company for Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (‘EPC’), including connections to outfall delivery facilities.

The ISTP is being developed by a consortium consisting of Miahona Company (lead), Marafiq, and N.V. Besix S.A. for the Saudi Water Partnership Company (‘SWPC’), which is responsible for water and wastewater projects across Saudi Arabia. The project aligns with the Kingdom’s ‘Vision 2030’ initiative, which aims to enhance wastewater management and improve the quality of life for residents.

This latest contract strengthens WABAG’s footprint in the Middle East, where the company has been active for over four decades. Earlier this year, WABAG secured an Engineering and Procurement (‘EP’) order for a 20 MLD Industrial Wastewater Treatment Plant (‘IWWTP’) at the Ras Tanura Refinery Complex in Saudi Arabia. The company’s strong track record with Miahona Company and its reputation for advanced technology played a key role in securing this latest order.

The EPC consortium for the 200 MLD ISTP comprises WABAG and Mutlaq Al-Ghowairi Contracting Company (‘MGC’). As the Technology Partner and leader of the consortium, WABAG will oversee the design and construction of the treatment plant, while MGC will handle the laying of transmission pipelines and construction of reservoirs.

Expressing his enthusiasm about the project, Mr. Sivakumar V, Regional Head – Sales and Marketing at WABAG, stated, “We are thrilled to secure this prestigious order from our existing client. We sincerely thank Miahona Company, Marafiq, Besix Group, and SWPC for their trust and confidence in WABAG. This order is a testament to our technological excellence and commitment to delivering world-class water solutions. It further strengthens our leadership position in the Middle East.”

WABAG’s continued expansion in the region underscores India’s growing influence in global water infrastructure projects. With its expertise in designing and operating large-scale water treatment facilities, the company is well-positioned to contribute to Saudi Arabia’s ambitious infrastructure development goals.
