Titagarh Rail Systems Limited has secured a major contract from Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers Ltd. (GRSE) for the construction of two research vessels to be deployed by the Geological Survey of India (GSI) for coastal exploration. The order, valued at ₹445 crore plus ₹22.25 crore towards GST, brings the total contract value to ₹467.25 crore. The vessels are scheduled to be completed within 28 months from the date of the Letter of Intent (LOI).
Designed under the classification regulations of the Indian Register of Shipping, the research vessels will be equipped for specialized scientific and exploration activities, including:
- Offshore geological mapping
- Mineral exploration, including dredging
- Ocean environment monitoring and research
- Shipboard data processing and sample analyses in modern laboratories
This project marks a strategic expansion of Titagarh Rail Systems’ capabilities beyond rail engineering into specialized shipbuilding, aligning with India’s growing focus on ocean exploration and sustainable utilization of marine resources.
