Titagarh Rail Systems Limited Secures ₹2,481 Crore Contract from MMRDA for Mumbai Metro Line 5 Project

Titagarh Rail Systems Limited (TRSL) has announced that it has received a Letter of Acceptance (LOA) from the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) for a landmark contract valued at ₹2,481 crore. The project covers the design, manufacture, supply, installation, integration, testing, and commissioning of key systems for Mumbai Metro Line 5, encompassing Phase 1 (Kapur Bawdi–Kasheli–Dhamankar Naka) and Phase 2 (Dhamankar Naka–Bhiwandi–Kalyan APMC).

 

The scope also includes five years of comprehensive maintenance following a two-year defect liability maintenance period, ensuring long-term operational reliability and efficiency for the metro corridor.

Under this turnkey contract, Titagarh Rail Systems will be responsible for:

  • Rolling Stock design, manufacture, and supply
  • Communication-Based Train Control (CBTC) and Signalling Systems
  • Telecommunication Systems
  • Platform Screen Door (PSD) Systems
  • Depot Machinery and Plant
  • Complete integration, testing, and commissioning of all systems

 

This all-inclusive package marks one of MMRDA’s most comprehensive metro system tenders, aligning with the authority’s push to expand high-capacity urban transport infrastructure across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region.

 

Execution Timeline
 

The contract specifies a structured implementation schedule:

  • Phase 1 (Kapur Bawdi–Kasheli–Dhamankar Naka): Revenue Operation Date (ROD) in 108 weeks
  • Phase 2 (Dhamankar Naka–Bhiwandi–Kalyan APMC): ROD in 200 weeks
  • GOA-4 Commissioning: Within 217 weeks from the contract’s effective date
  • Comprehensive Maintenance Period: 7 years from the commissioning of Phase 1, covering both Defects Liability and Operation Service periods
