Som Distilleries Breaks Ground on ₹600 Crore Greenfield Brewery & Distillery in Uttar Pradesh

Som Distilleries & Breweries Ltd., a prominent player in India’s alcoholic beverages industry, has officially launched construction of its massive ₹600 crore greenfield project in Khimsepur, Farrukhabad District, Uttar Pradesh. The Bhoomi Pujan ceremony, held recently, marked the formal beginning of work on what is set to become one of India’s largest integrated alco-beverage manufacturing facilities.

Spread across 40 acres allocated by the Uttar Pradesh State Industrial Development Authority (UPSIDA), the upcoming plant will include a brewery, distillery, bottling units, storage, and maturation facilities. The project is being developed under the company’s subsidiary, Woodpecker Greenagri Nutrients, and is expected to play a pivotal role in Som’s national expansion.

Massive Production Capacity and National Ambition

Once operational, the plant will boast a bottling capacity exceeding 12 million cases of beer annually, making it one of the largest single-location alco-beverage complexes in the country. Som Distilleries’ existing portfolio of five beer brands is expected to benefit from the enhanced production capabilities.

Speaking at the Bhoomi Pujan ceremony, Mr. Deepak Arora, CEO of Som Group of Companies, emphasized the strategic importance of the project.

“Farrukhabad represents more than just a strategic location—it embodies growth, opportunity, and the spirit of enterprise. With this greenfield project, we aim to not only strengthen our production capabilities but also generate employment for 700 to 800 people, supporting the local economy.”

He further noted,

“This expansion is aligned with our vision of becoming a truly pan-India player. Uttar Pradesh, with its large population, growing consumption base, and pro-business governance, offers the ideal platform for our next phase of growth.”

Sustainability at the Core

In line with global best practices, the new facility will be an ESG-compliant plant featuring Zero Liquid Discharge (ZLD) systems and advanced membrane technologies. The company aims to minimize environmental impact by focusing on water conservation, energy efficiency, and sustainable operations.

A Boost for Local Economy and Industry

The project is set to create significant employment opportunities and stimulate the regional supply chain through local sourcing and partnerships. The development aligns with the state’s broader goal of attracting high-impact industrial investments and strengthening its manufacturing ecosystem.

J.K. Arora, Chairman of Som Group, commented:

“This greenfield venture reflects our confidence in the long-term potential of the Indian beverage industry. We are proud to collaborate with the state of Uttar Pradesh as we take this transformative step forward.”
