Polyplex USA Commissions New BOPET Film Line and Expands PET Resin Capacity

Polyplex (USA) LLC (PU), a wholly owned subsidiary of Polyplex Thailand Public Company Limited (PTL), has successfully commissioned and begun trial runs for two major expansion projects in the United States. PTL, in turn, is a subsidiary of the India-based Polyplex Corporation Limited.

Key Project Expansions

  1. New BOPET Thin Film Line:

  • A brownfield expansion with a production capacity of 50,000 MT per annum.
  • This increases the total BOPET thin film capacity in the US to 81,000 MT per annum.
  1. PET Resin Plant Debottlenecking:

  • Expansion of the existing PET resin plant from 58,000 MT per annum to 86,000 MT per annum.

The commercial production for these projects is set to begin within the next few days.

Investment and Strategic Impact

  • The total capital expenditure for these projects stands at $124 million (excluding working capital), financed through a mix of internal accruals and borrowings.
  • With these additions, Polyplex USA becomes the largest and most cost-competitive producer of BOPET thin films in the United States.

Background and Industry Impact

The expansion was initially announced on October 1, 2020, as part of Polyplex’s long-term growth strategy. The move strengthens the company’s position in the North American market, catering to the rising demand for high-quality polyester films used in packaging, industrial, and electronic applications.

With this development, Polyplex reaffirms its status as a global leader in the plastic film industry, leveraging its manufacturing capabilities across multiple regions to drive innovation and cost efficiency.
