Jindal Urban Waste Management Secures ₹430 Crore Waste-to-Energy Project in Andhra Pradesh

Jindal Urban Waste Management (Kakinada) Limited, a subsidiary of Jindal Group, has signed a concession agreement with Swachh Andhra Corporation & others for the development of a 15 MW Waste-to-Energy (WtE) plant in the Kakinada-Rajahmundry cluster, Andhra Pradesh. The total project value is estimated at ₹430 crore.

The project aims to convert municipal solid waste into electricity, supporting both waste management and renewable energy generation in the region. Under the agreement, Jindal Urban Waste Management will be responsible for project design, construction, operation, and maintenance of the plant, ensuring sustainable and efficient energy recovery from waste.

Waste-to-Energy plants
function by converting non-recyclable municipal solid waste into electricity through processes such as incineration, gasification, or anaerobic digestion. These facilities reduce landfill burden, control environmental pollution, and simultaneously generate power that can be fed into the grid, contributing to local energy needs and sustainability goals.

The 15 MW Kakinada-Rajahmundry WtE plant is expected to strengthen the region’s waste-to-energy infrastructure, align with the government’s green energy initiatives, and provide long-term environmental and economic benefits.
