Hindustan Construction Company Limited (HCC), in collaboration with Tata Projects Limited (TPL), has been awarded a ₹2,191 crore contract for the construction of an 8.65 km-long underground corridor as part of the Indore Metro project. The contract, issued by the Madhya Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation Limited (MPMRCL), marks a significant milestone in the city’s metro expansion.
HCC holds a 55% stake in the joint venture, amounting to approximately ₹1,205 crore. The awarded project, designated as Package IN-05R, is the only underground segment of Indore Metro’s 31.32 km Phase 1 network. The package involves the construction of an 11.32 km-long tunnel using Tunnel Boring Machines (TBM) and the development of seven underground stations at key locations, including:
- Indore Railway Station
- Rajwada
- Chota Ganpati
- Bada Ganpati
- Ramchandra Nagar
- BSF/Kalani Nagar
- Airport
The tunnel will run from a ramp east of Indore Railway Station to a ramp west of Airport Station, enhancing connectivity across the city.
HCC’s Ongoing Contributions to India’s Metro Expansion
HCC has been actively involved in India’s metro infrastructure development. The company is currently working on Mumbai Metro Line 3, constructing 4 km of twin tunnels and four stations, alongside two metro projects in Chennai. Over the years, HCC has played a pivotal role in shaping urban transit systems across India, having contributed significantly to the Delhi Metro, Bangalore Metro, Mumbai Metro Line 1, and Kolkata Metro.
With this latest contract, HCC continues to reinforce its position as a key player in India’s metro construction sector, bringing world-class infrastructure to urban commuters.
