Cosmo First Limited, a global leader in specialty films, has successfully commissioned a state-of-the-art BOPP (Biaxially Oriented Polypropylene) film manufacturing line at its existing facility in Aurangabad, Maharashtra. With an investment exceeding ₹400 crore, the new line is among the world’s most advanced and adds 81,200 metric tonnes (MT) to the company’s annual capacity.
This strategic expansion increases Cosmo First’s total BOPP film capacity by nearly 40%, taking it from 1,95,800 MT to an impressive 2,77,000 MT per annum. The move comes as part of the company’s broader push to strengthen its position in the global specialty films segment and meet rising domestic and international demand.
World-Class Technology, Strategic Timing
The newly-commissioned line features cutting-edge technology and is designed to be the most cost-efficient in India. It is also expected to qualify for state government incentives, further enhancing its operational viability.
“We expect the line to get filled quickly due to the current favourable demand-supply gap in the domestic market,” said Pankaj Poddar, Group CEO, Cosmo First. “The new line will also allow us to deepen our presence in the specialty films category and launch several new products in the coming quarters.”
Expanding Specialty Film Portfolio
Cosmo First has reported a robust 10% CAGR in specialty sales over the last six years. The latest expansion is aligned with the company’s strategy to grow its specialty films portfolio, particularly for packaging, lamination, and labelling applications. The company also plans to introduce new, high-margin specialty products in the near future.
