Novartis India has approved the acquisition of the Indian trademarks ‘Minipress’ and ‘Minipres’, along with certain related intellectual property rights, from Pfizer Inc. and Pfizer Products Inc. for an aggregate consideration of ₹1,250 crore.
The company’s board approved the transaction on September 7, 2026, and Novartis India has entered into an asset purchase agreement and trademark assignment deeds with the two Pfizer entities. The signing and closing of the transaction are set to take place simultaneously.
According to the company, Minipress XL, which contains prazosin, and is primarily indicated for the treatment of hypertension and management of urinary symptoms associated with benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), generated revenue of ₹228.6 crore in India based on IQVIA MAT July 2026 data. The product has recorded a 6.3% CAGR over the past four years, compared with 9% CAGR for the category during the same period.
The acquisition will give Novartis India ownership of the trademarks and associated intellectual property rights for the products in India. The company has not disclosed further financial details on the expected impact of the transaction on its earnings or margins.
